Did you know that toe strength and toe sensitivity are key to preventing falls as we age? Did you know that deformities in the

foot provide clues to what might be amiss functionally? Do you have bunions, hammer toes, heel pain, plantar fasciitis, or a history of

ankle sprains or foot injuries?

Join me for this 4-week series where we explore the complexity of the feet and the importance of how our relationship to the ground

through our feet determine our stability, comfort, and ease of movement. We will explore improving sensitivity and clarity in the feet,

dive into the anatomy of the foot and the importance of strengthening the intrinsic muscles of the foot, and learn simple practices you

can do to improve your foot strength and sensitivity.

“When we first learned to walk, we walked just to enjoy walking. We walked and discovered each moment as we encountered it.

We can learn to walk that way again.”

– Thich Nhat Hanh

I was excited when I learned that Fritha was offering the “Discover Your Feet” series. My right foot is frequently painful and stiff, because of old injuries, and I knew this course would be helpful.

What I didn’t expect going in, was how profoundly and quickly working with my feet would affect my proprioception and overall sense of balance.

After just two weeks of classes and doing the exercises, I’ve noticed increased flexibility in my feet, a better connection with the ground, and greater ease when moving and standing. And I’m convinced that waking up the connective tissue in my feet has led to a more integrated body awareness that helped me avoid what might otherwise have been a serious fall. Last week, while working in my garden, I tripped over a brick and lurched forward into the air. Instead of having that “oh, no, I’m going down” feeling, I observed that my body simply reoriented itself, and I landed upright, still holding the large bucket I was carrying. I feel grateful and amazed at the difference the course has made so far and plan to keep doing the exercises. Fall prevention is particularly important for those of us who are aging, but I think anyone would benefit from this series. Fritha is an extremely kind and generous teacher, who creates a supportive space in which to explore new possibilities for movement and awareness. I can’t recommend her or the course highly enough.
