Book on the Foot


This lesson utilizes what Feldenkrais called an ‘artificial floor’ to explore habits of how our feet organize in relationship to the ground. Using a book as an ‘artificial floor’ in this lesson allows us to discover aspects of how our feet relate to the ground and how that is connected to the shape and use of the ankles and hip joints. This lesson puts us into a novel situation where we don’t have to deal with standing in gravity, which makes it easier to reduce effort and discover details in our habits. And it’s fun! Get out your favorite children’s hardcover book, and make sure it’s big enough to fit your whole foot.
